Around 80 participant-researchers and innovators showcased their research and innovation proposals during the 2nd Quarter Research Design Hearing held from September 29 to October 3, 2025, at the Planning and Research Unit of the Schools Division Office (SDO) Tacloban City.
The proposal hearing plays a vital role in ensuring that research initiatives in the education sector are quality-driven, relevant, and feasible and provides a dedicated platform for expert reviewers to assess the significance, rigor, and overall merit of submitted proposals.
Participants included individual and group proponents, members of the panel of evaluators, and the secretariat from the Planning and Research Section.
The panel of experts, composed of School Heads, Public Schools District Supervisors, and selected teachers, offered professional and constructive feedback, raising critical questions to clarify and strengthen the studies.
When asked about the progress observed in this quarter’s hearing compared to previous ones, Dr. Jade Calleja, Division Research Coordinator, shared his insights: “Every year offers a fresh study from our proponents. The studies presented are not only novel in approach but deeply responsive to the unique challenges faced in their respective contexts.”
He added that with such promising and innovative proposals, he is confident that these research initiatives will not only enrich DepEd Tacloban City's academic landscape but also empower schools to thrive through evidence-based practices tailored to their unique needs.
The hearing also highlighted the impact of past capacity-building efforts, as noted by Scandinavian Naitonal High School Principal Dr. Emman Firmo, who observed: “One of the presented proposals clearly reflects the success of our previous research capability-building activity for our DRR coordinators, demonstrating how fruitful that initiative has been.”
Dr. Firmo added that this kind of meaningful outcome encourages teachers and school adminsitrators to continue investing in such programs to further strengthen the capacity of our educators.
Also present during the activity was Dr. Melani Escobarte, Chief of the School Governance and Operations Division (SGOD), who actively engaged with the participants and panel members.
Expressing her full support for the initiative,
Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Sherlita Palma commended the efforts of the proponents and organizers: “I am proud of the dedication shown by our educators in pursuing research and innovation. These activities are essential in building a culture of inquiry and continuous improvement in our schools.”
Proponents are expected to incorporate the feedback and suggestions provided by the panel.
Once revisions are completed, they will be formally notified to proceed with the conduct of their research.
